Coach Esry begins his 11th year with the Men’s Basketball team at NCMC and his 8th as the head coach in 2023-24.  His career record as head coach is 132-68.

As a first year head coach, Esry led the Pirates to a 18-10 overall mark tying for the regular season Region XVI championship.

His second year mark was 17-11 overall.

Year three for Esry featured NCMC's first ever Region XVI title plus a NJCAA District XII championship resulting in a trip to the national tournament.

2019-20, Esry's fourth year at the helm, saw the Pirates basketball team again rise to new highs with Region XVI and District XII championships and the team reaching the #1 national rank for the first time in program history.  The Pirates held that ranking in 7 of 16 NJCAA national polls.  The team did not get to compete for a national championship due to the tournament being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020-21 team again took home a Region XVI and District titles, earning a 3rd consecutive national tournament berth.

It was another NJCAA Region XVI title for NCMC in 2021-22 before the Pirates fell in the district championship game to conclude their season.

The Pirates concluded the 2023-24 season with a 17-11 record and bowed out of the Region 16 tournament in the opening round against Metropolitan CC.

In three years as an assistant, NCMC also won or tied for the regular season Region XVI championship twice. Esry helped lead the 2014-2015 team to a 22-7 record, the best single season record in school history. That year also saw the Pirates get ranked as high as 10th in the nation. Individually, Esry has helped recruit and develop nineteen 1st Team All-Region selections and two 2nd Team All-Americans with many players moving on to play at 4-year universities.

Prior to North Central, Esry was a Graduate Assistant at Central Methodist University and began his coaching career at Peru State College as an assistant coach from 2009-2011.  As a player, Coach Esry played his first two years at NCMC and transferred to Central Methodist, helping lead them to a Sweet 16 finish in the NAIA National Tournament.
