Lady Pirates Softball kicked off their season by travelling to North Arkansas College and sweeping a 4-game set. On Monday, NCMC took the wins 7-6 and 17-1. Tuesday saw final scores of 6-3 and 9-0 in the victories.
"I was pleased for our first outing especially since it was the first time we have been on the field this spring. I think we have a lot of improvement ahead but overall it was a good opening series," commented Coach Richman. "Defensively we will become more consistent."
Top offensive performers for the Lady Pirates included freshmen Madison Goble (8-13, 4 runs) and Tatum Dunham (6-9, 4 runs). Big time sophomore contributions came from Kendra Holt (8-11, 1 HR, 6 RBIs) and Alex Miller (6-13, 6 RBIs).
Four pitchers came away with wins in the series led by Miller's 8.0 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.88 plus 15 K's. The Lady Pirates defense did commit 5 errors resulting in 4 unearned runs in the series.
Next action for the Lady Pirates will be a doubleheader Sunday at Kansas City Kansas Community College. First pitch is set for 2:00pm.
