Softball Sweeps Opening Series

Lady Pirates Softball kicked off their season by travelling to North Arkansas College and sweeping a 4-game set.  On Monday, NCMC took the wins 7-6 and 17-1.  Tuesday saw final scores of 6-3 and 9-0 in the victories.

"I was pleased for our first outing especially since it was the first time we have been on the field this spring.  I think we have a lot of improvement ahead but overall it was a good opening series," commented Coach Richman.  "Defensively we will become more consistent."

Top offensive performers for the Lady Pirates included freshmen Madison Goble (8-13, 4 runs) and Tatum Dunham (6-9, 4 runs).  Big time sophomore contributions came from Kendra Holt (8-11, 1 HR, 6 RBIs) and Alex Miller (6-13, 6 RBIs).

Four pitchers came away with wins in the series led by Miller's 8.0 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.88 plus 15 K's.  The Lady Pirates defense did commit 5 errors resulting in 4 unearned runs in the series.

Next action for the Lady Pirates will be a doubleheader Sunday at Kansas City Kansas Community College.  First pitch is set for 2:00pm.
