Long's 6th Place Finish Paces The Lady Pirates At William Penn Classic

The North Central Missouri College Women's Golf travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Statesmen Classic hosted by William Penn University. The Pirates finished in 8th place after the conclusion of two days with a 36-hole score of 773. On Monday the Pirates came around Edmundson Golf Course with a team score of 394. Heavy winds picked up on Day 2 but NCMC improved Monday's score by 15 shots finishing with a team tally of 379. Host William Penn won the team title with a score of 637.

"Monday the girls got off to a rough start but really found their stride on the back nine by hitting shots and I was happy with the way they scrambled around the greens."

"Tough conditions on Day 2 with the wind really picking up throughout the day but the message on the bus was room for improvement and that is exactly what they did. On Day 2 they improved the most shots from Day 1 out of every school which was really nice to see.

Emily Long led the Pirates with a 36-hole score of 163. (84-79)

"Hats off to Emily for keeping her composure throughout the two days and shooting a very respectable 79 on Tuesday. That was T-5th for the entire field on Tuesday's scoring and she left some shots out there but a T-6th finish overall and one shot out of earning All-Tournament Team is nothing to hand your head over. I'm proud of the way she competed both days."

Taylor Hileman improved her Day 1 score by 6 shots with an 89. That score placed her just outside the Top 25 for the 42 player field. (26th)

"Taylor played some really good golf on Tuesday and wasn't rattled by the wind and kept her head down throughout the day and got through it". She scrambled really well both days and played the Par 5's better than a lot of the field."

Lexi Hutton, Laynie Swieger, and Lexi Hutton rounded out the Lady Pirate total with a 36-hole score of 212 and 218 respectively. Alison Allen shot a 108 in Round one but was not able to finish on Tuesday due to sickness.

"Alison hit the driver great on Monday and Tuesday but about 5 holes she started to feel sick and was not able to finish the tournament unfortunately. She got off to a really good start on Tuesday but the sickness did not allow her to continue the round. We will monitor where she is at and hopefully she will be ready to go for Graceland on Saturday."

Laynie and Lexi did not have the tournament showing that they wanted but I'm proud of the way they played with confidence at all times. They will tidy up a few things with the driver and their iron play and will come back stronger on Saturday." "They both hit the driver consistently Round one and two but gave up a lot of shots around."

Next action for the NCMC Women's golf team will be on Saturday September 18th at the Graceland Fall Tournament.
