4th Place Finish For Lady Pirates Golf

Lady Pirates golf got fall athletics kicked off for NCMC with a 4th place showing at the Klocke Family Classic this past weekend.  The team shot a two-day score of 801 at the Mount Mercy University hosted event.  The tournament was contested at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, IA.

Full team results were as follows:

Mount Mercy University – 681

Viterbo University – 729

Waldorf University – 748

North Central Missouri College – 801

Coe College – 835

Leading the way individually for NCMC was freshman Emily Long with a 6th place finish.  Her 36-hole score was +26.  Sara Golden and Taylor Hileman tied for 18th position with a score of +51.  Returner Kiersten Howell placed T27 at +97.  Twenty-nine players competed in the event.

Head coach Daniel Cordray had these comments about his team's first fall event.  "I was pleased overall with how we competed on the weekend with competing against primarily upperclassmen.  We definitely have some individual things to work on to get where we want to be at the end of the year.  The area had lots of rain the previous week and there were lots of standing water areas, so the course played a lot longer than normal.  That being said, with it being our first collegiate event for all but Kiersten, they adjusted fairly well.  Kiersten did not get many rounds in last year with a sophomore dominated squad.  Emily obviously led the way for us, but I believe herself and I know there are things that could have been done a little better.  Sara fought some nerves on day 1, but got her composure better on day 2 and showed what she can do on a majority of holes.  Taylor I felt had a pretty good showing for her first event.  Kiersten struggled with some consistency, but we know what we are going to work on to get it better.  As I always tell each team, I want to see you do your best at each event, but in the end, our goal is peaking at postseason in April/May.
