Lady Pirates Golf Place 9th At Klocke Family Classic

Lady Pirates Golf traveled to Marion, IA this past weekend for the Klocke Family Classic.  The event was hosted by Mt. Mercy University at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.  The field was largely comprised of 4-year schools plus the Lady Pirates and Iowa Western Community College, a perennial JUCO power.  The event was a 36 holes contested over Saturday and Sunday.  The Lady Pirates placed 9th out of 10 teams with a two-day score of +214.  Click here for full team results.

Here are Coach Daniel Cordray's remarks about the tournament.  "Our squad is freshman heavy with one sophomore returner, so I knew we would have some nerves.   We were led by freshman Lauren Quimby from Tarkio with a 79 (+7) on day one, which had her sitting alone in 5th place.  It was a personal best low 18-hole round for her.  She followed it up with a 91 (+19) on day two to finish in 11th place, one spot off of the all-tournament team.  Freshman Jessica Sheil from Maryville had a solid showing in her collegiate debut with posting a day one score of 93 (+21) and a day two score of 91 (+19) which was good for 26th place individually.  Rounding out scores for NCMC were freshman Carson Hall 108-105, freshman Gretchen Tharp 120-103 and sophomore Shayla Woodside 139-146.  Having two individuals, freshman at that, cracking the top half of the field in their first tourney was a great accomplishment.  As I've always told the ladies, 'Our goal is to peak in mid-April at regionals and to improve all the way until then.'  I feel each of the ladies took away things that we need to work on for improving.  My goals for the event were to crack the 400 mark as a team, and we did that each day.  I also had individual goals for each and feel that we did a good job there as well.  Lauren and Jessica had a really good showing in our opening event and the other ladies fought hard and kept scores respectable.  Each time you step up to a new level of competition there's always going to be some added pressure to perform.  We need to keep setting goals week by week, and we will see good things coming."
