Lady Pirates Compete At Peru State Spring Invite

Lady Pirates Golf competed on Wednesday at the Peru State Spring Invite.  The leading scorer for NCMC was Julia Weydert who placed 27th at +33.  Other Lady Pirate scores were 28th place Hannah Bracken (+39) and 29th place Shayla Woodside (+62).

Coach Daniel Cordray had these comments about the event.  "It was a nice day for a change on the course, a tad windy, but finally warmer.  It's been a rough spring to get quality time on the course without having to layer to the extreme to get through practice/rounds of golf.  Peru was yet again part of the weather as we got pushed back from a two-day event on Sunday-Monday to a one-day event on Wednesday.  That change in schedule led to a reduced field.  The ladies I felt competed fairly well on the day with taking our aspects of what we've been working on.  Hannah struggled a bit for her early in the round, but toughed it out and finished with better scoring on her final nine holes.  Julia didn't have her best ball striking day, but got her putting back in order to keep her score down some from what we'd been seeing.  Shayla keeps working at each task I give her with her head up and grits through each round we play.  She struggled a bit with her consistency on ball striking, but showed she had applied what we've been working on.  It showed with the strokes she knocked off her round.  For a first year golfer, she definitely has kept her head high and shows streaks of what her potential can be.  All in all, short game and course management has been what we've really focused on this spring and I see the ladies applying it a little better each time we're on the course."

Next up for the Lady Pirates is the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase.  "We kick things off with a practice round on Thursday at Bent Tree in Council Bluffs, IA followed by round one on Friday.  Once again our crazy spring weather has affected our tourney, as it's expected for 3" of snow on Saturday after being near 80 on Friday.  That being said, the final round has been cancelled and the tourney shortened to 18 holes," detailed Cordray of the changes to the team's final tournament before regionals.
