The NCMC Lady Pirate's golf team competed in their first event over the weekend. The Klocke Classic, hosted by Mount Mercy University at Hunter's Ridge Golf Course in Marion, IA, included teams from Mount Mercy, Bethany College, Waldorf University, Peru State University, Graceland University, and Southwestern Community College. Coach Cordray's team finished in 8th place for the event with a total 2-day score of 1011 strokes. Mount Mercy won the team honors in a score card playoff after tying Bethany College with a score of 691 strokes.
Individually, Hannah Bracken led the way for the Lady Pirates shooting +73 which was good for 33rd place. Julia Weydert was not far behind, finishing in 35th place at +80. Trenton's Lana Raymo (+97) and Shayla Woodside (+185) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Pirates.
"Being the first tourney for Lady Pirates' Golf, I knew that I was challenging them with a tough collegiate course against a primarily 4-year university field. The course was close to 800 yards farther than what the ladies had played in high school plus it was a 36-hole event. The tourney was going to test our grit and hunger for the game and I was proud with each of them on fighting until the 36th hole. So far this fall we have been implementing some swing changes to let us reach each individual's potential for the spring season. The ladies stuck with working on the changes during each round, even when it got tough. Golf is a game that can be very tough on one's self when working on changes to improve and the ladies came out on top. Each had their good holes and bad, but they all saw glimpses of what we've been working on. We will keep working through the fall and offseason towards reaching our goals for spring," remarked Cordray following the event.
The next event for the Lady Pirates will be Wednesday, September 27th at the Simpson College Invitational.
