Sophomores Recognized By Pirates Basketball

Lady Pirates Basketball closed the regular season with a pair of weekend losses.  On Saturday, NCMC fell to North Arkansas College by a score of 73-59.  Sunday saw the Lady Pirates take a 53-49 loss to Missouri Valley College JV.  Going into this week's Region 16 tournament, the Lady Pirates record sits at 7-19.

"We played with a lot of heart on Saturday but we just struggled to stop the North Arkansas inside game.  We shot the ball extremely well.  Sunday's game we just couldn't get our energy going.  We struggled from the field and from the free throw line," commented Coach Croy on her team's performances.

Saturday, the Lady Pirates got a career best scoring game from Karrisa Baber who totaled 30 points.  She knocked in 8 of 14 three point attempts in the losing effort.  Also in double digits was Maddison Book with 12 points.

The Lady Pirates also celebrated the contributions of their sophomore athletes to the program.  Baber, Book, Hailey Burrows, Haley Berghager, and Crystal Eureste were all recognized.

Pirates Basketball also took a loss to North Arkansas on Sophomore Day.  The final score of the game was 89-83 leaving the Pirates overall record at 15-12.

The Pirate spread the scoring in the game well with five players in double figures.  That scoring was led by freshman Marty Jackson with 15 points.

"I was pleased with our guys' effort on Saturday and how we carried ourselves.  The game came down to the wire and unfortunately we were able to get enough stops or any conversions offensively in crunch time.  Hopefully we can learn from our short comings and make a run in the region tournament," commented Coach Esry.

The sophomores that were honored in the day's ceremony were Yacento Scott Jr., Emil Spriggs, Jordan Reece, Calvin Heidenwith, Soloman Thomas, Jaran Richman, Stephen Campbell, Jake Salisbury, and Cameron Lockett.
