Road Unkind To Pirates Basketball

Pirates Basketball dropped a 114-106 road contest Saturday to Metropolitan Community College.  The loss leaves the Pirates at 1-2 in Region 16 play ahead of Monday's home showdown with St. Louis Community College.  The team's overall record, 13-9, got a boost in the past week after a couple forfeitures from Southwestern Community College for games played earlier this season.

The Pirates fell behind early in the contest and trailed 66-49 at the half.  Despite a great comeback attempt, Coach Esry's squad could not fully make up the deficit.

"Another tough Saturday for us; credit to MCC for putting on the shooting display that they did.  Making 24 out of 36 three point shots is pretty impressive.  I thought our guys did a great job of fighting thru adversity while we were down and getting back into the game.  That is something we have struggled with this year, but they did a great job of that on Saturday in putting us in a position to win. Unfortunately, we just couldn't pull off the comeback," commented Coach Esry.

Top scorers for the Pirates were Cameron Lockett (33 points), Quinan Rieves (24 points), and Soloman Thomas (17 points).  Marty Jackson and Yacento Scott Jr. also contributed double digits off the bench.

The Lady Pirates also dropped their game with the Wolves 91-66.  Their overall record sits at 6-15 and 0-3 in Region 16 play.  Their next action is also Monday night when they host St. Louis CC.
