Slow Start Dooms Lady Pirates In Road Loss

A slow start for the Lady Pirates on Saturday was too much to overcome as they fell on the road to St. Louis Community College 75-73.  The loss moves the team's overall record to 16-6 and snapped an 8 game winning streak.  In region play, NCMC is now 3-1 at the halfway point of the season.

"We got off to a slow start. We were down 11 at the end of the first quarter, but we bounced back and actually outscored St. Louis in the remaining 3 quarters," noted Coach Croy on the way the team battled back from a rough start.

Freshmen Kendey Eaton, 31 points, and Sarah Lamp, 10 points and 15 rebounds, helped the team dig out from the early hole.

"I was proud of our effort. We could have easily given up after our rough first quarter but that's not what these kids do," commented Croy.

The scrappy effort by the girls gave them a chance at the end.  "We had two decent looks at the end to win it but the ball just didn't fall," Croy stated.

Coach Croy noted that the team has room for improvement, especially on the road.  "Long road trips are tough. We've got to step off the bus ready to play."

The next action for the Lady Pirates is Monday night when they host Missouri Valley College JV at the Ketcham Center with a 5:30pm tipoff.
