Fun Start To Region 16 Play For The Lady Pirates

The NCMC Lady Pirates kicked off the Region 16 season with a bang.  They defeated Wentworth Military Academy 94-40 in Wednesday night's contest at the Ketcham Community Center.  The win pushes the team's overall record to 12-5 and 1-0 in region play.

Freshman Kendey Eaton had a stellar performance netting 27 points to lead the way.  Also in double figures for Coach Croy's squad were sophomores Asia Young (17 pts) and McKinley Hurley (15 pts).  Freshman Sarah Lamp contributed a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.  The team as a whole excelled from the free throw line, shooting 91% on the night which was sure to please the coaching staff.

"We talked in the locker room before the game about this being a big start to our region and how if we want to be the top of the region, we've got to play like the top of the region.  I felt like in the first-quarter we came out a little rusty and weren't finishing shots.  After halftime, we came out and put together a complete half.  It's going to take all four quarters for us to get to the top of the region where we want to be," remarked Coach Croy.

The next test for the Lady Pirates will be Southeast Community College out of Beatrice, NE.  That squad is currently 2-11 on the year.  The home tipoff will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 21st.
