Lady Pirates Improve To 8-3 With Win Over John Wood CC

The Lady Pirates got a nice home win Saturday over John Wood Community College, 77-70, completing the series sweep for the year.  Earlier in the season, Coach Croy's squad went on the road and took down John Wood 82-69.

This contest was a bit different than the first meeting.  "I felt like we got off to a rough start. This was our first game without Dasia Young in the starting lineup and you could tell we were a little out of rhythm," commented Croy.  Young had played an instrumental role in the early season victory.

"We felt like if we kept the pace going that John Wood would not be able to continue at that tempo which ended up working in our favor during the second half," stated Croy.  The lady Pirates trailed by 6 points at halftime and had cut that deficit to single point going into the 4th quarter.

Kendey Eaton, 19 points, and Sarah Lamp, 14 points, led the way for the Lady Pirates who outscored John Wood 19-11 in the final quarter to close out the victory.

"Our defense still has to improve but I was pleased that we overcame the deficit at the half and were able to pull out the win," remarked Coach Croy of the team's performance.

The game was the Lady Pirates final home contest until after the New Year but will be making their annual Florida trip where they will be taking on Miami Dade College on December 9th and Broward Community College on December 10th.
