Pirate's Softball Upsets Three Rivers In Sub Region Matchup Behind Rodgers' Strong Pitching

NCMC softball upset Three Rivers Community College over the weekend in a best of three sub regional matchup.  The games were played at Mineral Area College due to wet field conditions at the Raiders' home field.  NCMC took the opener 5-4 in 10 innings before dropping game two 7-3 on Saturday.  Sunday, in the winner take all matchup, the Pirates came out victorious with a 5-2 triumph.

In game one, Cassi Rodgers earned a complete game victory by allowing just 1 earned run over 10 innings pitched.  She struck out 10 and scattered 10 hits.  Offensively, the Pirates pounded out 12 hits including 5 doubles.  Shortstop Brookelynn Becker drove in a pair of runs and Maeve Lavoy went 2-5 with 2 runs scored.

Lavoy took the loss in the pitcher's circle in game two.  She surrendered 5 runs over 5 innings pitched, including a pair of Three Rivers homers.  Lavoy, who went 2-4 including a triple plus a run scored and a RBI, also led NCMC's offense.  Adding doubles for the Pirate's offense was Addison Huber and Gracie McKinney.

In the decisive game three of the series, Rodgers again twirled a complete game victory.  She allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings, both on solo homers.  Becker had an outstanding game at the plate going 2-3 with 4 RBIs.  Catcher Hope Helton went 2-4 with 3 runs scored in the victory.

NCMC's record now sits at 31-21 overall and they will be the 4th seed in the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament.  They will face top seeded and host Jefferson College at noon on Thursday.  The other first round game will pit 2nd seed Crowder College against 3rd seed State Fair CC.
