Pirate's softball couldn't carry their Florida trip momentum to victories in Region 16 matchups with Jefferson College on Sunday, dropping both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 7-2 and 10-8. NCMC's overall record sits at 17-8. They will look to improve their 3-7 record in a 4-game set at Three Rivers CC on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the opener with JeffCo, the Pirate's defense committed 7 errors leading to 6 unearned runs. This was too much for NCMC to overcome as they managed just 2 runs on 8 hits. Leading the offensive charge was sophomore Chloe Bell who homered and went 2-3 while scoring both runs. Taking the tough luck loss in the pitcher's circle was Cassi Rodgers who twirled a complete game, allowing 1 earned run over 7 innings and picking up 6 strikeouts.
NCMC made a valiant comeback attempt in game two, scoring all 8 runs in the 6th inning, but couldn't overcome Jefferson's robust offensive attack which pounded out 11 hits including a pair of home runs. The Pirates benefited from 9 walks in the game paired with their 4 hits. Having the best offensive performance was Rylee Murray who went 1-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs. Maeve Lavoy took the loss by allowing 7 runs (4 earned) in 5.2 innings pitched. She struck out 4 but did allow the pair of JeffCo homers.
