Pirate's softball split a home doubleheader on Thursday with Region 16 softball newcomer Missouri State University-West Plains. Final scores of the games were a 9-4 loss in the opener and a 13-4 win in game two. NCMC's region record sits at 3-3 ahead of a weekend doubleheader Saturday at Crowder College. The Pirate's overall record is a solid 11-4 so far this season.
Maeve Lavoy took the loss in game one, surrendering 3 runs in 1 inning which included a pair of home runs allowed. At the plate, shortstop Brookelynn Becker paced the NCMC offense by going 2-3 including a home run and 2 RBIs. NCMC committed 6 errors in the game which led to 4 unearned runs which thwarted their comeback attempt.
Lavoy led an offensive outburst in NCMC's game two win. She went 2-4 with 4 RBIs and a homer from the leadoff spot. Makenzie Dunkin homered as well in her 2-3 game. She too posted 4 RBIs in the Pirate's run-rule victory. Cassie Rodgers earned the complete game victory and improved her season record to 5-0. She struck out 7 Grizzly batters over 5 innings of work.
