Mixed Results As Pirate's Softball Starts Region 16 Play On The Road

NCMC softball opened their Region 16 play over the weekend by sweeping St. Charles CC 12-1 & 10-6 on Sunday and dropping a pair of games to Jefferson College 6-0 & 11-3.  Both sets of games were on the road and the Pirates will open home region action on Thursday when they host region newcomer Missouri State University-West Plains.  Overall, Pirate's softball has a record of 10-3 and is 2-2 in region play.

 

The Pirates slugged their way to victory in game one with St. Charles.  The win included 12 hits including a homer from Maeve Lavoy.  She also twirled the complete game victory, surrendering just 2 hits over 5 innings.

 

The bats stayed alive in game two as well led by Kaylence Cook's 2-3 effort with a pair of doubles, RBIs and runs scored.  St. Charles boosted NCMC's offense as well with 8 errors.  Cassi Rodgers picked up the win by allowing 0 earned runs in 6.1 innings.  NCMC also had fielding issues in the game, committing 4 errors which led to 6 unearned runs.

 

The opener with Jefferson College saw NCMC's bats go cold.  The Pirates were held to just a single hit, a double my Makenzie Duncan.  The Pirates totaled 14 strikeouts in defeat.  Briley Bouma took the loss in the pitcher's circle, surrendering 4 earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

 

The finale with JeffCo was highlighted by Brookelynn Becker's 2-3 performance at the plate.  She had a home run and a double plus a pair of runs and RBIs.  Overall, NCMC's offense was relatively quiet totaling just 3 hits.  Lavoy took the pitching loss by giving up 8 runs (3 earned) in 3 innings pitched.  She struck out 4 but allowed a pair of homers.
