Late Inning Heroics Secure Split For Pirate's Softball

Pirate's softball mounted a late game comeback on Tuesday to do defeat State Fair CC 8-7 in extra innings of the second game of a home Region 16 matchup.  The win salvaged a split after NCMC dropped the opener 10-6.  The team is now 13-13 overall and 4-6 in region play.  Next up will be a home doubleheader with Indian Hills CC on Thursday with the first pitch set for 2:00pm at Griffin Field.

 

Taijha Davis-Cogdill and Hailey Shepardson provided the heroics of the come from behind win.  Davis-Cogdill knocked a game tying grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning and Shepardson hit the walk off solo home run in the 9th inning to secure the victory.  Each homer was the first of the season for each player.

 

In the pitcher's circle, Lauren Krohn took the game one loss after surrendering 10 runs in 6 innings pitched.  Maeve Lavoy scattered 16 hits in the complete game win for game two.  She struck out 5 Roadrunners and allowed 6 earned runs.
