Pirates Softball Posts A Pair Of Region 16 Home Splits Against Jefferson College and Metropolitan CC

NCMC softball opened their home slate of games on Sunday by splitting a Region 16 doubleheader with Jefferson College.  The Pirates took the opener 5-4 before dropping game two 8-3.  On Monday, it was another home region split as they dropped the opener to Metropolitan CC 8-6 before pulling out a 7-6 extra innings victory to finish the day.  The team now holds a 6-6 record ahead of their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.  On that trip, they will play six games from March 13-15.

In their Sunday win, Lauren Krohn tossed a complete game and struck out 14 batters.  She was backed up by a balanced NCMC attack, which capitalized on two JeffCo errors that proved costly.  Stealing bases in the game were Rylie Boyd (1 run) and Rylee Murray (2 runs).

In the Metropolitan CC matchup, each team scored comeback wins.  MCC totaled 6 runs in the 7th inning to earn their win while NCMC tallied 2 runs in the 7th inning of game two to send the game to extra innings.  From there, the Pirates were able to walk off the victory with a run in the 8th inning.  Maeve Lavoy got the complete game win.  She struck out 9 batters in 8 innings pitched.  Offensively, Murray and Gracie McKinney each had doubles and scored runs.  Krohn went 3-5 from the leadoff spot including a run scored.  In addition to her efforts in the pitcher's circle, Lavoy drove in a pair of runs and went 2-4.
