NCMC Softball Takes 3rd In Region XVI Tournament

Pirates softball had an excellent showing at the 2022 NJCAA DI Region XVI tournament which was held on May 7-9.  The team went 3-2 which was good for a 3rd place showing.  The Pirates losses were to eventual champion Crowder College and runner up Jefferson College.  The tournament concluded the team's season which saw NCMC finish with an overall record of 33-18.

 

NCMC 8, Metropolitan CC 1

In the opening game, 4th seeded NCMC easily handled 5th seeded Metropolitan behind the complete game pitching performance of Sammi Bradshaw.  She struck out 6 Wolves and only allowed 4 hits.  Offensively, leadoff hitter Carsen Sporleder scored a pair of runs on a pair of doubles.

 

Crowder College 9, NCMC 0

Crowder pitching was able to keep down the Pirates attack, allowing just a single hit to Sadie Smith.  Taking the loss in the pitcher's circle was Chloe Buckallew who allowed 9 runs, 3 of which were earned.  NCMC's defense had 5 errors in the game.

 

NCMC 8, State Fair CC 2

In the Pirate's first elimination game, the offense again came alive by grinding out 12 hits and only striking out twice.  Leading the way was Madison Cowman who went 3-4 with a run scored and a RBI.  Sammi Bradshaw got the win in relief of starting pitcher Sadie Smith.  Bradshaw tossed 4.1 innings and didn't allow any runs.

 

NCMC 6, Three Rivers CC 2

The Pirates again staved off elimination by defeating 3rd seeded Three Rivers with a balanced offensive attack.  Four Pirates had multiple hits (Caragan Baker 3-4, Kori Hornaday 3-4, Abby Dobbins 2-4, Sadie Smith 2-4) in the game.  Bradshaw picked up her third win of the tournament with a complete game effort, allowing just a single earned run.

 

Jefferson College 4, NCMC 3

The Pirates finally bowed out of the tournament following a hotly contested extra inning loss to Jefferson College.  The matchup was NCMC's third game of the day.  Chloe Buckallew tossed the first 9 innings of the 11 inning game, allowing a pair of runs while earning a no decision.  Bradshaw took the loss, giving up a pair of unearned runs over 1.1 innings pitched.  NCMC could only muster 3 runs on 7 hits in defeat.  Kori Hornaday had the best game at the plate, going 2-4.
