Men’s Golf With Solid Showing At William Woods Spring Invite

The NCMC Men's Golf team traveled to Fulton, MO on Monday and Tuesday to wrap up a stretch of six days of golf in a row at the William Woods Spring Invitational held at Tanglewood Golf Course. The Men fired a team score of 304 on Monday to put themselves in 9th place out of 17 schools at the conclusion of round one. The low rounds for the Pirates were a (+1) 73 from Alvaro Alegria and a 74 from Grant Leamer which included a (-3) 33 on his back nine. Guillermo Gomez and Jorge Gomez shot 78 and 79 respectively for the Pirates. Lucas Schussler came around the Tanglewood Golf Course layout with an 87.

 

Tuesday saw the Pirates remain steady on the team leaderboard shooting a team score of 313 to finish in 9th place and surviving a late push by Central Methodist University and the Varsity Reserve squad from Columbia College. The 36-hole score of 617 is the best that the Pirates have posted throughout the Spring thus far. Grant Leamer led the Pirates with a 75 on Tuesday and notching his first Top 20 finishing in 19th with a two-day total of 149. Alvaro Alegria earned a Top 25 finishing in 23rd place with a 36-hole tally of 151. Jorge Gomez and Guillermo Gomez respectively finished with two-day scores of 158 and 159. Lucas Schussler posted a 36-hole score of 172.

 

As a team the Pirates made 21 birdies over the course of two days, which is the highest for the men's squad this year.

 

The Pirate Men will be in action next Tuesday when they compete in the Central Dutch Shootout held at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella, IA. Tee times for that event will begin at 11:00 A.M.
