First Fall Golf Tournament Is In The Books

Both the men's and women's golf teams placed 4th in the Rockhurst Fall Invitation held on Wednesday and Thursday.  The field consisted of the Pirates, Rockhurst University and William Jewell College with both men's and women's teams.  Kansas City Kansas Community College competed on the men's side only while Park University did the same on the women's side.  The men's 648 team score was 67 strokes behind the winning host Rockhurst.  In women's competition, NCMC's 810 left the team trailing winner William Jewell by 136 shots.

"It was nice to get our 1st tournament under our belt as a team and knock off some rust to see exactly where we are and look at where we can be moving forward," commented Coach Swann.

Individual scores and places for men's players in the 47 player field.

T28 Austin Lasher 77-81

T33 Brayden Schweizer 83-79

T35 Kyle Steel 79-84

T37 Cam Bates 79-86

46 Mason Moncrief 97-93

"The second round didn't exactly go the way Austin wanted as he fought off a few wayward tee balls that cost him a few strokes but overall a 77-81 is a great start to the fall campaign. Brayden showed some resilience today and scrambled really well to shoot 79. He wasn't striking the ball great but made up for it around the greens."

T18 Emily Long 88-92

28 Lexi Hutton 96-101

29 Taylor Hileman 105-103

31 Laynie Sweiger 109-116

32 Allison Allen 118-118

"Emily didn't have the placing that she wanted but still earned herself a Top 20 finish. Lexi also played some good golf these last couple days but she is determined to improve some of the numbers on her scorecard. I like where she is at with the driver but just needs to clean up a few areas within 150 yards."

In summation of the tournament and a forward looking perspective to fall golf, Coach Swann had these remarks.  "Windy conditions made for a tough time to get off to a good start. Especially against the likes of Rockhurst, William Jewell, Park and KCKCC, it is just difficult to play catch up in the final round but I'm proud of everyone for keeping their composure in tough conditions."

"With workouts and conditioning in full swing next week I have confidence that everybody will be prepared for Central Methodist and William Penn in a couple weeks."
