Pirates Golf placed 3rd out of 6 teams that competed in the Crossroads of America Invite in Wentzville, MO on September 23-24. In round one, the Pirates posted a team score of 316. Day two, the Pirates climbed the leaderboard thanks to a 294 result, 22 strokes better than the opening round.
Coach Sager had these comments about his team's day two rebound. "Congrats to the guys on bouncing back after a disappointing first round. 316 doesn't sound terrible on the cover, but none of the guys played anywhere near their potential. To come back in the second round and set a new program record at 294 was fun to watch."
Leading the Pirates was sophomore Pirmin Kamm. He place 7th in the 52-player event; he shot 77-70 in his rounds. "Pirmin continued his solid play this season. His ball striking is very consistent, so his score goes as his putter goes. In round two, his short game was very good, both chipping and putting. It's hard to say someone can improve on a sound, under-par round, but he certainly can and will. I expect his play to only get better and scores to stay in the red."

"Fredrik's round was much like Pirmin's, very consistent long game and solid work around the greens. He was very close to finishing that round under par as well, but just couldn't quite string it together. I expect him to continue working hard in his practice time and conditioning the next week or two and put up more good scoring in Joplin," detailed Sager of Hersley's performance.
Next, the Pirates get to work preparing for the NJCAA DII Fall Preview, which will be held on October 7-8. "Our focus now becomes The Fall Preview in Joplin. There will be a very good representation of the best teams in NJCAA DII in the field and I'm anxious to see where we stack up. When all five guys play the way they're capable, we look pretty good. When one or two have bad rounds, our scoring suffers and we can sink on the leaderboard fast. It'll be important for the guys to get off to a fast start and stay hot," concluded Sager.
