"War at the Moor" Win For Pirates

"War at the Moor" Win For Pirates

Pirates Golf earned a win at the "War at the Moor" hosted by Southwestern Community College on Tuesday.  The Pirates shot 309 which was seven strokes clear of the second place host.  Earning medalist honors for the Pirates was Fredrik Hersley who shot +2.  "It is really nice to pick up a win, both as a team and individually, heading into the heart of our schedule.  We need to do a good job of remembering what went right and work hard this week correcting our trouble areas.  Tee balls and approach shots were strong points for us, however I felt like our conditioning brought us down a little late in the round.  That won't be a problem next week," commented Sager.

Here are the results for all of the Pirates who competed in the 42-player event.

1 Fredrik Hersley +2

T2 Van Barr +3

T6 Pirmin Kamm +6

T15 Job van Nieuwkerk +10

19 Martin Stegberg +11

T20 Jayson Orr +12

T26 Trey Howell +14

T26 Bryson Yowell +14

34 Colton Barnes +16

"Congrats to Fredrik on winning the event against a good field.  His game is only going to keep getting better with reps over here.  He really played a flawless round with the exception of two wedges that got behind the pins.  Really a clean card for this early in the season," detail Sager of Hersley's winning performance.

Sophomore Van Barr, only a stroke back of Hersley, also had a solid performance for a second place tie.  "Van played really good golf.  His game has changed a lot in a year's time.  As he continues to make more birdies, he'll be on the top side of leaderboards.  We know that the bogies are going to happen, the key is having enough birdies on the card to counter them."

Crossroads of America Men's Golf Invitational is the next event set for the Pirates.  "I'm looking forward to next week in Wentzville.  We're being told that the course is in great condition and we know the field is going to be tough.  With the right mindset, I don't see why we can't pick up another win," concluded Sager.
