Pirates Place 2nd At Graceland Fall Invite

Pirates Golf placed 2nd in the Graceland Fall Invitational on Thursday.  The team shot +18, just 13 strokes behind the winner Grand View University.

"The guys did a better job of playing tournament golf.  I'd still like to see a little more grind during the middle of the round from a few of them.  When you make 4 or 5 bogies, you have to decide if you're going to make 4 or 5 birdies or if beating 80 is your goal.  Once you try to start beating a number, you're done.  We have to do a better job of playing the shot in front of us and forget about the numbers on the card," commented Coach Sager.

Individually, Pirmin Kamm led the way at +1, two strokes off of medalist honors.  "Congrats to Pirmin on a new personal best in competition play.  He played good in the wind, but he'd also be the first to tell you that he left several opportunities out there," added Sager.

Full Team and Individual Results

The fall season rolls on for the Pirates as they compete again on Monday at the "War at the Moor", hosted by Southwestern Community College in Creston, IA.  Coach Sager will be looking for continued improvement from his team.  "With our next event Monday at SWICC, we'll have very little time for practice.  As a team, we've been really good off the tee and our putters have been steady.  It's the small chips around the green complexes that have given us fits.  So far every course we've played has offered something different in the way of course preparation and setup.  The guys really need to focus on shots that will translate to different types of grass and designs."
