"It was good to get back out into a tournament setting.  For some of these guys, they haven't seen their name posted on a scoresheet since last fall.  I felt like this was the perfect setting to get some of the rust knocked off and get back into a competitive golf routine.  The course played a lot like our practice facility, so there was some familiarity with the conditions," commented Coach Sager.

Improvement as the season moves forward is on the mind of Sager and the players.  "We need everyone to find two or three more strokes.  This week we are going to focus on making birdies.  Too many times we chase a birdie with a bogie and that just isn't going to win golf tournaments."

Overall, Sager was happy with how his players placed on the leaderboard.  "It was good for Van to see his name on the top end of a leaderboard.  Sometimes all it takes is one round to gain a little confidence and then not look back.  Scott and Jasper continue to improve, the more golf they play the better they score.  Cody and Lathan will clean up some things in their games and push towards the top.  Combined they get more birdie looks than any two players do in NJCAA golf.  It's just a matter of time before everything comes together."
