Sophomore Day Success For Men's Basketball In 17 Point Victory

#1 ranked NCMC men's basketball put on a show for Sophomore Day as they took care of Region 16 foe Metropolitan Community College 99-82 Saturday. The win improved the Pirate's record to 22-0 and 3-0 in region play.

NCMC was led by Jon Carroll's impressive double-double.  Carroll was a force in the paint, scoring 24 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting while also controlling the glass with 14 rebounds. His ability to get to the free-throw line was a difference-maker, as he converted 10 of his 12 attempts. Tyler King provided another huge scoring boost, netting 22 points while pulling down eight rebounds. King's inside presence and aggressive play helped NCMC maintain control throughout.

Camden Bennett delivered a well-rounded performance, chipping in 19 points, including two three-pointers, while knocking down all five of his free throws. His steady play in the backcourt was crucial in keeping the offense flowing. Giovanni Mack showcased his all-around game with 14 points, nine rebounds, and a team-high five assists, proving to be a key facilitator on both ends of the court.

Joe Clark added efficiency to the starting unit, scoring nine points on 4-of-5 shooting while dishing out three assists. Off the bench, Mikey Thomas provided an extra spark with six points and two steals in just 12 minutes, while Deng Gak contributed three points, four rebounds, and two blocks, adding defensive intensity in limited action.

As a team, NCMC shot an impressive 56.1% from the field, significantly outpacing MCC's 43.8%. Their rebounding advantage (42-23) gave them second-chance opportunities and limited MCC's ability to generate extra possessions. Despite turning the ball over 18 times, NCMC's offensive efficiency and control of the boards ultimately secured the win.

On the other side, MCC's Devonte Watson put on a shooting clinic, pouring in a game-high 27 points, including five three-pointers, but it wasn't enough to overcome NCMC's balanced attack. Mike Brooks added 17 points, while Ian McDonald finished with 11.

In a pregame ceremony, sophomore athletes from the men's basketball team and the Dance Wave were recognized.  Those included Jon Carroll, Joe Clark, Tyler King, Giovanni Mack, Jeadan Nieveld, and Mikey Thomas from men's basketball and Makenzie Dunkin, Jacklyn Reice Jennings and Gabby Williams from dance.
