Sophomore Day Success For Pirate's Basketball Over Metropolitan CC: Esry Reaches 150 Wins

Head Coach Jeremy Esry reached the 150-win plateau on Saturday when his 16th ranked NCMC Pirates emerged victorious over Metropolitan Community College with a final score of 96-77. The Pirate's offensive prowess, efficient shooting, and solid defensive efforts played pivotal roles in securing this impressive win to stay unbeaten in Region 16 play and to improve to 18-4 overall.  Their next game will be a home tilt with Avila University JV on Thursday night in the Ketcham Community Center.

 

Isaiah Reams led the charge for NCMC with a standout performance, finishing the game with 29 points, showcasing his scoring versatility. Reams efficiently converted 11 of his 15 field goal attempts, including a three-pointer, and demonstrated composure at the free-throw line, making 6 of 8 attempts. His all-around game included 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and exceptional ball distribution.

 

Tyler King was another standout contributor, delivering a stellar offensive display with 25 points. King's scoring was fueled by his accuracy from beyond the arc, making 3 of 6 three-point attempts, and he was effective at the free-throw line, converting 2 of 4 attempts. His efforts were complemented by a well-rounded performance, contributing 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

 

The starting lineup of all sophomores, featuring Dampier Evans, Jakorie Terrill, Jamaal Davis, Khalil Screen, and Isaiah Reams, set the tone for North Central Missouri with their energy and teamwork. Evans, Terrill, Davis, and Screen provided valuable contributions on both ends of the court, contributing to the team's success.

 

The robust bench also played a significant role in the Pirate's victory. Giovanni Mack orchestrated the offense with 11 assists and added 9 points, while Joe Clark and Mikey Thomas chipped in with 8 and 4 points, respectively. The team's depth and balanced scoring were evident as multiple players made meaningful contributions.

 

Defensively, North Central Missouri showcased its ability to disrupt Metropolitan CC's offense, accumulating 9 steals and 4 blocks. This collective defensive effort played a crucial role in limiting Metropolitan Community College's scoring opportunities.
