Pirates basketball stayed hot on Thursday night when they won a thriller over visiting Southeast CC 86-83. NCMC, holding a season record of 11-9, have won five straight ahead of hosting Region 16 foe Metropolitan CC on Saturday at 4:00pm. The Wolves are the last team to defeat NCMC, taking their home matchup with the Pirates 76-71 on January 15th.
Handling the bulk of the scoring for NCMC in the win were starters Kolten Griffin (27 pts) and Isaiah Ervin (19 pts). Kam Bevel chipped in 13 points off the bench to round out the Pirates double digit scorers.
NCMC held a tidy 42-27 halftime lead and controlled the game by a comfortable margin most of the way. Southeast made valiant comeback attempt and had the ball with the game tied with under 30 seconds to play. However, on the inbounds pass attempt at half court sophomore Mack Anderson stole the ball for the Pirates and emphatically slammed home the game's winning points. The NCMC student section and other fans that packed the Ketcham Center roared their approval.
