Pirates basketball took an overtime road defeat to Moberly Area Community College 110-109 on Tuesday night. The Greyhounds, a perennial DI power and the winner of Region XVI last year, drops NCMC's overall record to 3-3.
Leading the way for the 19th ranked Pirates was sophomore and returning All-American Atavian Butler who netted a career high for points in defeat.
Close games, especially of the overtime variety have been a staple of Pirates basketball this season. Coach Esry sees room there for improvement. "I'm proud of our guys. This is our third overtime game and we are 1-2 so we've got to get better at it," remarked Esry.
The Pirates get a day to catch their breath before hosting Central Methodist University JV on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 7:00pm.
