Top Ranked Pirates Cruise To Victory

The NJCAA Division II top-ranked NCMC Pirates took care of business on their home court Wednesday night when they defeated Ellsworth Community College 96-62.  With the win, the Pirates record sits at 14-1 overall.

The Pirates offensive attack was very balanced in victory, with five Pirates in double figures.  Leading the way was sophomore Quinan Rieves with 17 points.  Defensively, the Pirates held Ellsworth well under their season average point total.

The game marked the first time in school history that NCMC men's basketball has played a game with the #1 ranking in the nation.  Coach Jeremy Esry said after the victory that his team has continued to work hard in practice despite the national recognition.  "We have a really hungry mindset and can be a really special group," stated Esry in his postgame interview.

Next up will be the Region XVI opener on the road against St. Louis Community College.  On Saturday, Esry expects to encounter a St. Louis team that is tough on defense and that brings a physical, aggressive and intense style of play.  The Archers hold a 6-8 season record.
