Pirates Improve To 6-1 Overall

Men's basketball pushed their record to 6-1 for the season with a pair of wins in the Kansas City Kansas Shootout.  Friday's 111-109 win over Labette CC took triple overtime.  NCMC handled host KCKCC more easily on Saturday, notching the 100-86 victory.

"I was really impressed with our guys focus and resiliency all weekend.  For us to play two quality opponents from one of the top Division 2 JUCO conferences in the nation and come away with two wins, it was a really good weekend.  Friday was a crazy night; we controlled the game for most of the 55 minutes but could never put Labette away until the last seconds of the third overtime.  Marty Jackson and Jeramy Shaw were huge for us offensively and Quinan Rieves did a great job rebounding the basketball.  Saturday was another tough one against a really well coached KCK team.  I thought our guys did a great job of fighting thru fatigue and applying pressure on both ends to get the win.  It was great to see us share the ball and have six guys in double figures," detailed Coach Esry of his team's performance.

Through seven games, the Pirates are averaging 93.9 points per game which ranks 15th in the nation.  That attack has been very balanced with six Pirates averaging at least 10 points per game.

Next up for the Pirates will be a home tilt with Peru State College JV on Tuesday.  Tipoff is set for 7:00pm at the Ketcham Community Center.
