Turnovers and Missed Free Throws Plague Pirates At St. Louis

Pirates Basketball dropped to 1-1 in Region 16 play on Saturday with a road loss to St. Louis Community College.  The Pirates, who led by a score of 36-34 at the half, could not hold on and fell by a final score of 77-70.

"We couldn't put together a solid 40 minutes on Saturday.  Turnovers and missed free throws really hurt us and STLCC did a great job of putting pressure on our defense and making us defend, which we struggled at as well," commented Coach Esry after the loss.  The Pirates made just 15 of 28 free throw attempts, which aided in their second half demise.

Leading the Pirates in scoring was sophomore transfer Cameron Lockett with 16 points.  Lockett competed for the Archers just a year ago.  Also tallying double figures were sophomores Yacento Scott Jr. (14 points) and Jordan Reece (12 points).

The Pirates, now holding a 10-10 overall record, will look to get back on the winning track Monday as they host Missouri Valley College JV for Homecoming.  Earlier in the year they bested the Vikings by 17 points.
