#6 Southwestern CC Pulls Away From Pirates Down The Stretch

Pirates Basketball took a hard fought 75-66 loss Tuesday night against 6th ranked Southwestern Community College.  With the loss, the Pirates are now 3-3 ahead of a Friday home game against Ottawa University JV.

In the game, the Pirates were led in scoring by transfer sophomore Soloman Thomas's 15 points.  Also in double figures with 11 points was freshman Marty Jackson.

The game was close throughout but the Pirates could not gain the lead down the stretch.  "We just couldn't get over the cusp last night and take advantage when the opportunities presented themselves.  You've got to give a lot of credit to Southwestern, every time we would make a run and get it to 3 or 4 they would come down and hit a big shot," commented Coach Esry.

Despite a .500 record so far in the early season, optimism is high within the program.  Two of the three Pirate losses have been to nationally ranked opponents.  "I was proud of how hard we played but we have to do a better job of capitalizing on opportunities and getting stops late in the game in order for us to win this year," concluded Esry.
