Coming off a resounding home victory to start the season against Graceland University JV, the Pirates stumbled on the road Saturday against 18th ranked John Wood Community College falling 83-67. With the loss, the Pirates are now 1-1 ahead of a home contest against Ellsworth Community College on Tuesday.
"It was a pretty disappointing Saturday for us. Our guys played hard and brought some good energy; however, we were unable to shoot it very well from the outside. We allowed John Wood to get comfortable and hit some 3's against us," commented Coach Esry. Despite the shooting woes, the Pirates were able to hang tough with solid defense in the first half. They went to the break in a 32-32 tie with their nationally ranked opponent. In the second half, the Pirates were outscored 51-35 resulting in the 16-point defeat.
