Defense Provides Spark For Road Win

It was a nice road victory for Coach Jeremy Esry's Pirates Wednesday night over Wentworth Military Academy 79-53.  The victory pushed the team's region record to 2-2 and the overall mark to 12-8.

The defensive end provided the spark for the team as they held Wentworth to the lowest point total for an opponent all season.  "Our guys came out and set the tone early on the defensive end. We still struggled in some spurts but I was very proud of their defensive effort and how keyed in and active they were," remarked Esry.

Four Pirates scored in double digits on the night.  Major Finley led the way with 17 points while Jalen Gant, Demetrious Houston Jr. and Dee Scruggs also topped the 10 point mark.  "Offensively we were able to feed off of our defense and make some great plays in transition," noted Coach Esry.

Not much time for celebrating for the Pirates.  Their attention immediately turns to their Saturday opponent which will be MCC-Penn Valley on the road.  "While this was one of the better overall team wins we have had this year, now we need to keep the momentum up Saturday against Penn Valley," concluded Esry.  The Pirates fell in a high scoring affair earlier in the year at home against the Region 16 foe.
