The Pirates took a hard home loss on Saturday against rival #18 Penn Valley, 105-101. On the year, the Pirates overall record is now 9-6 and the team is 1-1 in Region 16 standings.
Five players scored in double figures for the Pirates, led by freshman Jalen Gant with 23. Sophomore Demetrius Houston Jr. totaled 21 points as the Pirates pushed hard to try to comeback from a sizeable early game deficit.
"This was a pretty disappointing game for us as we thought we had a lot of uncharacteristic turnovers and missed opportunities. We have to take advantage of all opportunities when playing a ranked opponent. Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and improve on the positive possessions that we had against them for next time," commented a disappointed Coach Esry following the game.
The Pirates next contest is on the road Monday against Ottawa University JV with a 7:00pm tipoff.
