Pirates Stumble Down The Stretch In 92-87 Loss To Southeast CC

The Pirates lost a hard fought contest with Southeast Community College on Saturday 92-87.  The loss moves the team's record to 8-5 on the season.

Scoring again was not the issue on Saturday.  Demetrius Houston led the way with 18 points.  Also in double figures were Ryan Ward with 17, Major Finley with 15, and Jalen Gant with 14.  However, the defensive end could not hold off a comeback by Southeast CC.  "We have to get tougher down the stretch, especially with getting multiple stops in a row on defense.  Southeast is a good team and we knew they were going to try and make a run once we got a lead, which they did.  Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and learn to put teams away when we are ahead," remarked Coach Esry.

Luckily, the Pirates won't have long to think about this game as they are back in action on Tuesday, January 24th against Graceland University JV.  That game will also be at home in the Ketcham Community Center with a tip-off time of 7:30pm.  The game will be the final tune-up for Esry's squad before the much anticipated first matchup with Region 16 foe MCC-Penn Valley on Saturday.
