Sunday Split For Esports Overwatch

Sunday Split For Esports Overwatch

On Sunday, North Central Missouri College faced Butler University in Overwatch. Game One was played on the map Oasis and Game Two was played on the map Numbani. The Pirates won the matchup 2-0. In the second matchup, the Pirates took a 2-1 loss against University of Alabama in Huntsville.

NCMC has been quick to adapt to the changes made to many characters in the game. For many months, a stationary playstyle has ruled the competitive scene.  However, in last night's matchup, NCMC brought out a more mobile playstyle and this caught Butler off guard.

The Pirates highlighted weaknesses in the enemy's team composition by using range-based characters against Butler's Mei/Reaper comp. This past week, NCMC has been practicing counter-picking enemy teams and this has led to more impact in team fights. This allowed NCMC to go uncontested for many fights leading to their overall victory.

Heading into their second game against University of Alabama in Huntsville after a 63%-100% loss on Oasis, the Pirates forced the Chargers into a game three, coming back and pushing the payload into an overtime clutch on Numbani. The game was close but the Pirates failed to push Huntsville into overtime on Route 66 concluding the matchup 2-1 in favor of UAH.

"It felt good to get our first tournament game win of the season. Unfortunately, match two against UAH didn't go our way but we learned from it," commented Luis AguilarAnakin Burkeybile added, "I felt like I played my absolute best and it showed for the matchup against Butler. This was probably the best set of 2 games we have played as a team by far."  Bonaventure Nyakoojo detailed, "The games we played had huge value. The position and teamwork from every person contributed to our first tournament win."

Head Coach Chris Flowers had these comments about the games.  "We showed up to play Sunday night. We played, fought, and conquered as a team. This is the best I've seen my Overwatch team play all season long. These guys have put the work in everyday at practice and after hours; they are grinding to improve in every aspect. The matchup against UAH didn't go our way but it wasn't without a fight and we didn't fold or give up and I'll take that any day."
