Baseball Goes 2-1 In Weekend Series, Up To #20 In NJCAA Poll

NCMC baseball, up to #20 in the latest NJCAA DII baseball poll, won two out of three against East Central College over the weekend.  The team is now 26-6 overall and hold a mark of 10-1 in Region 16 play.  Their next action will be Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Kansas City Kansas CC.

In the opening game Friday, NCMC couldn't get around 14 walks/HBP they surrendered to the visiting East Central Falcons.  Taking the loss was freshman starter Luis Leon (4-3).  Leading the offensive charge in defeat was Alexandro Paz who went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored.

In Saturday's doubleheader, NCMC righted the ship and came away with a pair of wins.

In the opener, Max Wagers (4-1) tossed 6.1 dominant innings, allowing just 1 earned run.  Alex Smith came in to record the final two outs to earn his 3rd save of the season.  Offensively, Paz again led the way with a pair of hit and a run scored.  Chase Maddox knocked a clutch homer for NCMC as well.

Game two required a comeback for the Pirates who trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning.  NCMC was able to plate 6 runs in the frame capped by another Maddox homer, a 3-run shot.  Javier Suarez had a nice offensive game from the leadoff spot, going 3-5 with 2 runs scored and a long ball of his own.  Wilmer Jimenez hit a home run of his own, his team leading 9th of the year, while going 2-4.  Picking up the win in relief was Johanno Perdomo (3-0).  Jimenez notched the save by recording the final 4 outs.  He now has 4 saves for the season.
