Luis Rivas knocked a 16th inning, walk-off home run for the Pirates to take a 4-3 win in the opener Sunday against Region 16 foe Moberly Area CC. NCMC also took game two by a score of 16-4 in 5 innings. With the wins, the Pirates stayed undefeated in league play (8-0) and improved to 23-5 overall. Next up will be another home Region 16 matchup, three total games against East Central College on Friday and Saturday.
Runs were hard to come by for both teams in the opener. Luis Leon got the start for NCMC and allowed all 3 MACC runs in his 6.0 innings pitched. Wagers, Smith and Jimenez combined to throw 10.0 innings without surrendering a run. Other than Rivas' big blow with the walkoff homer, Julio Guerrero paced NCMC's offense. He went 3-6 with a runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.
NCMC jumped on top early and maintained the lead in the 16-4 game two win. The Pirates plated 11 runs in the first inning to set the tone. Leadoff man Javier Suarez had a standout game, going 3-3 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs. Eric Torrero picked up the win with 3 innings pitched and 4 earned runs.
