NCMC Baseball Concludes An Excellent Fall Season

NCMC Baseball concluded their fall slate of games on Thursday with a road sweep of Metropolitan CC 5-2 & 6-2.  In the exhibition season, NCMC went 12-6 overall and showed great promise for the coming spring season.  Fall games were played against a variety of teams from NCAA DII, NAIA, NJCAA, elite travel ball organizations and the NCMC alumni.

Leading NCMC offensively with a stellar .548 batting average was freshman outfielder Javier Suarez.  He also led the team with 15 runs scored hitting mostly from the leadoff position.  Knocking a team high 2 home runs was sophomore catcher Cesar Grau with 2.  He batted .327 and knocked in 13, tied with sophomore Jordi Ventura for the team's high mark in RBIs.  Freshman shortstop Eduardo Chourio posted a .421 average and made some stellar plays defensively.  Sophomores Wilmer Jimenez (.368 avg., 12 runs, 8 RBI) and Shodai Nishihara (.351 avg., 6 runs) also provided excellent contributions.

Despite much success and solid team numbers, NCMC fans did not get to see the full potential of the offense this fall.  A number of injuries hampered the Pirates and they will look to get healthy this winter off-season.  Two key offensive contributors from the 2023-24 squad, Julio Guerrero and Alejandro Paz, each saw limited fall at-bats due to nagging ailments.

On the mound, the Pirate's pitching staff posted a team ERA of 3.54 across 157.2 innings pitched.  Potential starters Endrick Reyes (1.13 ERA), Graden Hammond (1.64 ERA) and Jose Calcano (1.64 ERA) led the staff.  Pitching depth should be a team strength come spring with each pitcher buying into the team philosophy of throwing strikes and letting the defense work.  As a team, NCMC fielded .934 this fall with excellent athletes at all positions.
