Guerrero & Ventura Break Records In NCMC's Weekend Split

NCMC baseball went 2-2 on the road this weekend with Moberly Area CC to push their season record to 20-21.  In Region 16 play, the team is now 8-7 with a pair of series left with East Central College and Hesston College.

Saturday was not the Pirate's day.  They lost both games to the host Greyhounds 5-2 and 5-4.  Sunday saw the team play much better, sweeping the day 13-3 and 6-2.  In the season series, NCMC went 4-3 against Moberly and are a game ahead of them for 2nd in the region standings.

Getting wins on the mound for NCMC were freshman starters Eric Torrero and Ethan Walker.  Torrero threw a complete game victory and struck out 8.  He allowed 3 runs while scattering 8 hits.  Walker pitched 3.2 innings for his victory but struggled some with his command.  He walked 3 batters and gave up 1 run.  Camden Lutz picked up his first save of the season, recording the final 4 outs in the game four victory.

Julio Guerrero again led the NCMC offensive charge.  He went 8-15 for the weekend and hit for the cycle in the opener on Sunday.  He scored 6 runs for the weekend to put his season total at 57, a new single season record at NCMC.  His season batting average inched back up to .500, which is 2nd best in the nation.

Jordi Ventura also put his name into the NCMC record book over the weekend when he picked up a pair of RBIs to reach 56 for the season.  He eclipses the 55 RBIs Tanner Sears collected in the 2021 season.

Other top offensive performers for NCMC against Moberly were catcher Justin Dameron 5-8, 3 RBIs and Wilmer Jimenez 7-14, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

NCMC's next action will be a home game Tuesday with State Fair CC.  First pitch is set for 1pm at Burleigh Grimes Field.
