Pirates Split At Hesston College As Guerrero And Ventura Climb The NJCAA DII Stats Leaderboard

Pirate's Baseball went 2-2 over the weekend against region foe Hesston College.  At a windy Oswald Field, NCMC split doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday to move to 18-18 overall and 6-5 in region play.  Their next action will be a road game Tuesday at Metropolitan CC.  First pitch is set for 2:30pm.

 

Earning wins on the mound were ace Kevin Toala in Saturday's opener and Alex Smith in relief in Sunday's finale.  Toala twirled 6.1 innings and allowed just 3 unearned runs.  Smith pitched a pair of scoreless frames to secure his victory. 

 

Buoying the Pirate's offense was freshman standout Julio Guerrero.  He went 10-16 for the weekend with a homer, 6 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.  His season batting average is now .513 and ranks second in NJCAA Division II.  His 50 runs scored is also among the national leaders at 10thJordi Ventura picked up 7 more RBIs over the weekend and his season total of 51 is 5th best in the nation.
