Pirates Take 2 of 3 From Moberly Area To Start Region 16 Play

NCMC baseball started Region 16 play off by winning 2 of 3 against the Moberly Area CC Greyhounds on Friday and Saturday.  The Pirates are now 14-14 overall and 2-1 in region play.  Next up will be a game Tuesday with St. Charles CC in Moberly, MO.  First pitch is set for 2pm.

 

On Friday, NCMC took an 8-5 loss on a cold day at Burleigh Grimes Field.  Pirate's pitching walked 9 batters and hit another 5 batters on the way to defeat.  Taking the loss was sophomore Kevin Toala.  He gave up 6 runs (3 earned) over 4 innings of work.  NCMC's offense was led by catcher Justin Dameron who went 3-4 with a run scored. 

 

Saturday saw a better effort from the Pirates, especially on the mound.  Wins came by the final scores of 5-0 and 12-2.  Starters Allan Martinez (7 IP, 0 runs, 10 K's) and Eric Torrero (5 IP, 2 runs, 4 K's) each picked up complete game victories.  Offensively, Jordi Ventura was a stalwart at the plate going 4-7 with a home run and 5 RBIs.  Julio Guerrero chipped in a pair of hits and scored 3 runs.
