Baseball Goes 2-2 In Spring Break Games In Kansas

NCMC baseball got a pair of wins and a pair of losses in their Spring Break games in Kansas on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Pirates swept Baker JV 10-2 and 12-3 before losing twice to John Melvin University 10-8 and 14-4.  The team's overall record now sits at 12-13 before opening Region 16 play on Friday and Saturday.  NCMC will take on Moberly Area CC in a single 9-inning game on Friday at Burleigh Grimes Field with a first pitch at 2pm.  Saturday will be a doubleheader with the Greyhounds with a noon start.

In the Pirates latest four games, the offense has been led by freshman centerfielder Julio Guerrero.  He went 7-12 with 4 doubles, 7 runs scored and 6 RBIs.  Sophomore outfielder Rawlins Brant has also had a hot stretch with the bat.  He went 7-11 with a triple and 5 runs scored on Tuesday and Wednesday.  In limited at-bats due to a nagging hamstring injury, freshman Jordi Ventura knocked a grand slam and collected a couple other singles in the four game set.  Also homering for NCMC were Juan Campusano and Cesar Grau.

On the mound, freshmen Jose Calcano and Johanno Perdomo each picked up win against Baker.  Both pitched 5 innings with each allowing only a single run.  Out of the bullpen, Plinio Donoso had a dominant start to his season by striking out 5 batters in 2 innings pitched.  Taking losses to John Melvin were Dylan McIntyre and Aiden van Kimmenaede.
