Pirates Salvage One Win Behind Martinez's Shutout In Lewis & Clark Series

Pirate's baseball secured just one win in their 4-game series over the weekend with Lewis & Clark CC.  NCMC's record dips below .500 for the first time this year as the sit at 10-11 ahead of a doubleheader Tuesday at Baker University JV.

Earning the Pirate's lone win on the mound was sophomore Allan Martinez.  He tossed a complete game shutout on Saturday while striking out 11 batters in NCMC's 8-0 victory.  His dominant performance helped the Pirates avoid the sweep.  For the season, his ERA now sits at 6.20.  Taking losses on the mound were Eric Torrero, Johanno Perdomo and Dylan McIntyre.

Offensively, the Pirates batted .244 during the weekend with 3 home runs.  Knocking those were Wilmer Jimenez, Shodai Nishihara and Jordi Ventura.  Jimenez was the strongest offensive performer during the series for NCMC.  He went 4-13 with a homer, 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs.  Ventura, leading the Pirates in most offensive categories this season, was hampered by a hamstring injury and limited to 3 at bats.  He went 2-3 including a homer and 2 RBIs.
