Pirate's Baseball Goes 2-2 Over The Weekend

NCMC baseball hit the road over the weekend and went 2-2 in games played at North Arkansas College.  On Saturday, the Pirates took their first two defeats of the season to the host Pioneers 3-2 and 10-7.  The team rebounded nicely with a pair of wins Sunday over Western Technical College 4-3 and 15-2.  The team's record currently sits at 6-2 ahead of a 4-game set in Joplin this coming weekend with Spoon River College.

Leading the offensive charge for the Pirates over the weekend was Jordi Ventura with 7 hits, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.  He also blasted a pair of homers.  Other home run hitters for the Pirates included Wilmer Jimenez (2), Truman Bodenhausen (1), Rawlins Brant (1) and Landon Wells (1).

On the mound, winners included starter Jacob Rehkow (2-0) and reliever Dylan McIntyre (1-0).  Jimenez picked up a save on the mound as well, his first of the season.  Losses went to Camden Lutz (1-1) and Alex Smith (0-1).  As a team, the Pirate's pitching staff boasted a 3.38 ERA over the weekend and a stellar 32/10 strikeout to walk ratio.

NCMC's defense allowed 9 unearned runs on the weekend, a statistic the team will look to improve on as the season progresses.  8 of those runs came in the 10-7 defeat to North Ark, a number too much for the impressive Pirate's offense to overcome.

So far this season, NCMC is hitting .341 as a team and has used their team speed to swipe 29 bases over 8 games.  Power has also been on display with 25 extra base hits including 11 home runs.  NCMC has three hitters currently batting over .500 in Ventura (.577), Bodenhausen (.526) and Julio Guerrero (.500).
