NCMC baseball kicked off their spring season over the weekend in Branson, MO with a 4-game sweep of Milwaukee Area Technical College. The Pirates outscored the Stormers 46-13 in those games and run ruled MATC twice. Next up for NCMC will be another trip south. They will take on North Arkansas College in a doubleheader on Saturday and Western Technical College in a Sunday twin bill. All four games will be played in Harrison, AR.
Jordi Ventura, a freshman from Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Dominican Republic, paced a potent NCMC lineup. He went 8-13 on the weekend with a homer, 4 doubles, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI's. On top of that, he threw a scoreless inning of relief with 3 strikeouts in his pitching debut.
Leadoff shortstop Alejandro Paz also had a nice opening weekend. He went 8-14 with 3 doubles and 7 runs scored. Centerfielder Julio Guerrero posted a .545 batting average with 7 runs scored of his own. He was also a terror on the base paths recording 5 stolen bases to lead the team. Freshman utility man Truman Bodenhausen from Savannah, MO also contributed nicely. He totaled 5 hits and 6 RBI's plus 4 stolen bases.
Homering in the series were Wilmer Jimenez (2), Strader Richardson (1) and Ventura (1).
On the mound, NCMC's pitching staff did a good job of limiting baserunners. MATC accumulated a total of 24 hits and Pirate's pitching limited them to just 11 walks over the 4-game set. Earning wins on the mound for NCMC were sophomores Kevin Toala and Jacob Rehkow plus freshmen Camden Lutz and Aiden van Kimmenaede. Lutz's outing was a complete game victory as he twirled 5 innings allowing just a solo homerun to Milwaukee Area.
