Pirate's baseball won a high scoring affair at Graceland University JV on Tuesday 23-16. With the wins, the team's record sits at 9-20 ahead of a key Region 16 showdown with last year's champion East Central College. There will be a doubleheader played on Thursday and a single 9-inning game on Friday.
NCMC's offense carried the team against Graceland by pounding out 18 hits. Sophomore Kendall Rivero knocked his first homer of the year and went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored. Landon Wells, a freshman outfielder from King City, MO, went 1-2 with 5 walks and 5 runs scored. The trio of Layne Rutherford, Hagen McGarrah and Bailey Quint each had 3 hits at the top of the Pirate's lineup. Keaton Mudd continued his hot streak by going 2-4 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs.
On the mound, Nathan Fine secured the win by tossing 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed 1 earned run and struck out 5. The NCMC pitching staff as a whole struggled with command in the game, allowing 13 walks and 4 hit batsmen.
